University of Saskatchewan COVID-19 vaccine approved for human clinical trials

A COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed at the University of Saskatchewan is preparing to begin human clinical trials in January, with recruitment being coordinated by the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology in Halifax. The candidate, out of the university’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), is a subunit vaccine, a type used in other immunizations against common diseases, including hepatitis, diphtheria and whooping cough. It does not require ultra cold storage, a significant advantage compared to Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine which has already been approved.
