Provinces ration COVID-19 vaccines ahead of Pfizer delivery slowdown
Provinces are rationing their existing COVID-19 vaccine supplies following news that Pfizer/BioNTech will slow the pace of shipments to Canada pending work to refurbish its manufacturing plant in Belgium. Some provinces are cancelling new appointments for first doses, instead prioritizing existing supply for people who have already received a dose and require a second one for full immunity. Other measures being taken include lengthening the time between doses, and prioritizing immunizing individuals who work in or provide services to long term care homes.
