Pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer is beginning trials of a protease-inhibiting drug that could prevent people newly infected with COVID-19 from progressing to have severe symptoms. Similar treatments have been used successfully against other viruses, such as HIV and Hepatitis C. The company has seen no cause for concern is very early stages of the trial and will present preclinical data at the American Chemical Society meeting in two weeks.
