New data shows that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine can offer enhanced protection against COVID-19 variants as well as against the original version of COVID-19. A 40-person trial tested an extra dose of Moderna’s existing vaccine as well as a newly developed vaccine candidate that aimed at providing additional protection against the COVID-19 variant first identified in South Africa. Results showed increased antibodies against all variants of COVID-19 tested in the trial and tolerable side effects similar to those seen after second doses of the Moderna vaccine.
