Made-in-Canada coronavirus vaccine starts human clinical trials
The first COVID-19 vaccine designed and manufactured entirely in Canada has been administered in a human trial. Providence Therapeutics’ vaccine candidate was given to 60 adult participants in Toronto this week, with 45 receiving the vaccine and 15 getting placebo. The company has purchased a location in Calgary to ramp up production of its mRNA vaccine, which is the same platform used by vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna that are already in use.
