Health Canada reviewing submission to use Pfizer vaccine on children 12 and older
Health Canada is in the process of reviewing a submission from Pfizer that would expand eligibility for its COVID-19 vaccine to youth 12 years old and up. The company claims that a phase 3 clinical trial of more than 2200 adolescent participants showed 100 % effectiveness in preventing the disease and no safety concerns. While trials continue to test the vaccine in infants as young as 6 months, and other vaccine makers are testing their candidates in adolescents, most of the vaccines approved in Canada to date are restricted to adults aged 18 and older except for Pfizer’s which is approved for people aged 16 and older.
