G7 announces pledges of 870 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, of which at least half to be delivered by the end of 2021
At the G7 summit in southern England, leaders reaffirmed their pledge to global vaccination efforts and established timelines which target the end of 2022. Together member nations have pledged a total of 870 million vaccine doses, half of which are expected to be delivered by the end of the year. The United States’ contribution of 500 million Pfizer-BioNTech doses represents the largest single donation, purchased at a “not for profit” price. All vaccines will be distributed via the international COVAX initiative and shipped to low- and middle-income nations over the course of the year and into 2022.
