Canada will be among first countries to receive Moderna COVID-19 vaccine shipments

Moderna’s chief medical officer Tal Zaks has stated that Canada will receive doses from the Massachusetts-based firm’s first production run of its COVID-19 vaccine. The exact date of arrival will depend on how long it takes Health Canada to approve the vaccine, which is currently being reviewed on a rolling basis (as data is submitted in real time as clinical trials are still ongoing). Mr. Zaks indicated that the first batch could be small, with the size of shipments accelerating in the first and second quarters of 2021. Canada has agreed to buy up to 56 million doses of Moderna’s vaccine, which is administered as two doses.
