Canada to get first Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses next week, Trudeau says

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has signalled that Canada could begin receiving shipment of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine as soon as next week. The candidate is expected to receive Health Canada regulatory approval this week. The initial batch could be up to 249,000 doses; as this particular vaccine requires two doses spaced 3 weeks apart, the first shipment would inoculate about 125,000 Canadians. Plans are for the first shipment to be distributed to 14 sites across the country, with the exact number of doses sent to each location being determined on a per capita basis. The vaccine needs to be stored at –70 Celsius, one stumbling block to a cross country roll-out.
