Canada administers its first COVID-19 vaccine shots
Canada began a national vaccination campaign this week following approval and shipment of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Doses were delivered to select sites across the country. Officials prefer administering the vaccine at central sites as it requires extreme cold storage and can degrade if moved too much. Health care workers began receiving vaccinations at hospital sites in several cities, while residents of two long-term care homes in Quebec City and Montreal were vaccinated on-site. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine requires a second dose in three weeks’ time.
