Approval for Moderna’s vaccine ‘looks positive’ but a few more documents still needed
Health Canada’s chief medical officer has signalled that a COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Massachusetts-based Moderna is tracking towards receiving regulatory approval. Dr. Supriya Sharma sees positive signs in data already submitted, but requires some additional documents before finalizing the approval. The candidate would be the second approved in Canada following Pfizer/BioNTech’s, and has some advantages including less onerous storage requirements, making it more likely to be shipped to northern regions, remote and Indigenous communities, which have not received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine due to storage concerns.
